EVER FELT YOU ARE FAKE?

Have you ever felt inadequate, incompetent or insecure even though you have done well for yourself?

If you ever did then know that you are not alone. You are probably experiencing what Psychologists call IMPOSTER SYNDROME.

According to the International Journal of Behavioural Sicnece (2013), this condition affects 70% of adults at some point in time of their lives.

Imposter Syndrome, also known as IMPOSTERISM is a condition that causes people to attribute their achievements to chance instead of acknowledging that their accomplishments are a result of the application of their abilities and talents.

Clance and Imes (1978) defined Imposterism as the inability to internalize accomplishments and persistent fear of being exposed as a fraud.

Imposterism is often characterized by anxiety, depression, fear of failure, perfectionism, self-doubt and stress.

Do you often feel any of these? If yes, then you might be facing the emotional challenges that impostorism imposes on its sufferers.

Let's learn more about this condition in my subsequent posts on the subject.
